I hate when I get stuck on the hook. I mean really…. I am human! So… I might not have
been totally awake yesterday as I was sitting in church. In my defense, I had just gotten out of a Sunday school class with 26 pre-schoolers that morning, so I was exhausted! As I was listening, the pastor brought up the words we use and how they can affect people. Since I am all about words, both written and spoken (a lot of them according to Mike) I make an effort to pay attention when the subject is brought up. Well he noted the verse:
It only takes a spark, remember, to set off a forest fire. A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. James 3:5 Continue reading “What’s the fuel to your fire?”
This year was kind of funny because Lent started on Valentine’s day. Not coming from a liturgical background, I have only started following this tradition. (In my own made up way) So a couple days ago, I was reading a blog written by a young Catholic woman, and she made the connection between Valentines day, the whole “love” thing, and Lent which prepares us for the remembrance of the greatest act of love ever. I thought that was kinda cool. Up to that point, the only connection I had made about the coincidence was to tease my friend that she may need to celebrate Valentines on Tuesday.
Well, this isn’t the bay area, where there are plenty of museums, venues, and events, but that doesn’t mean that there is nothing to do!
I think it is going to be an interesting year. There are things that I am looking forward to, but I also feel a little concerned. Why? Well it all comes down to themes. When I read or see things, sometimes themes appear. So far this year, I have seen this thread of beauty through pain, and it has caught my attention.
So today, since I am not feeling well (still feeling the effects of the flu) I am going to try and make these observations short. These are just some things that have stood out to me the past few days, and they seemed appropriate to think about on this day we remember the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

step carefully as I walked, making sure to navigate around the bumps and place my feet on flat ground. Why? Because I am such a clutz! Now there was plenty of good ground to step on, but I had to pay attention to make sure that is where I was walking. I took the picture because that is really how I am feeling right now. My life’s path feels a bit bumpy, so I am taking it slow trying to make it through. The picture gives me hope, as the path does eventually smooth out, and I know my life’s path will too. It is only a matter of time…..
When I started “A Study in Pink” I guess I thought I would be sharing the stories of women, highlighting different occupations, and maybe even inspiring someone out there to reach for a dream. I didn’t think it would challenge me so much, and maybe even change my own thinking about what I do. The more I talk to women though, the more I feel like that is exactly what’s been happening. Maybe even more so when I met the latest entrant in this series, Patricia Diaz of P.A.T.Y’Studio.
So when your husband leaves a home store and says, “that place is really cute,” then you gotta know it’s something special! That was my husband’s response when we went into Studio 12 Homes in downtown Lemoore. It was time to get back in the “pink” and see what the professional women of Kings County have going on.
